'Air napping' in suspended cocoons is latest craze in bid to relax and unwind

By DAISY DUMAS

Time to nod off: The air nap gives tired workers a chance to take a short break from the grind

A gym in Charlotte, NC, is offering frazzled clients a class in the ultimate relaxation technique: sleeping.

Air napping, the latest craze at the Flex-and-Fit gym, sees customers climbing into silken hammocks and hanging in sweet repose for 25 minutes.

In what may be the least arduous gym class ever, the nappers are simply required to make themselves comfortable and fall asleep to the strains of calming music.

Sleep lessons: Shama Patel helps a client wriggle into the silken cocoon before a restorative nap

'Relax, close your eyes and listen to the meditative music,' instructs gym owner, Shama Patel.

Nearly half an hour later, she gently wakes her nappers up, interrupting their rest in the womb-like cocoons.

Fomer attorney Ms Patel says that she came up with the idea as a way to fill the room between work-out and yoga classes.

In her former line of corporate work, she had come across specially-designed napping rooms before and saw the potential in the unused space.

Cocoons: A sleeper lies, suspended in relaxation. The hammocks are made of silk and sleeps only last for 25 minutes

Patel told WCMC.com: 'When I first entered corporate America, they did have a nap room.'

'It encourages us to take a nap and recharge and then get to work.'

The unmoving forms of bodies suspended in the gently swaying cocoons may look eerie, but the response has been positive.

One napper told the news station 'I feel rejuvenated, ready to start the day.'

While another, Evan Panesis, said: 'This was one of the best naps I've ever taken, I might have to get one for my home now.'

Madonna's metamorphosis: Fresh-faced star flutters around the red carpet in a butterfly dress

By JADE WATKINS

Youthful butterfly: Madonna's metamorphosis into a youthful butterfly was complete last night, as she fluttered around on the red-carpet for the premiere of her directorial début W.E at the 68th Venice Film Festival

She already debuted a fresh-faced appearance at a photo-call this morning to which she arrived to looking glowing and wrinkle-free.

But Madonna's metamorphosis into a youthful butterfly was complete hours later, when she fluttered around on the red-carpet for the premiere of her directorial début W.E, at the 68th Venice Film Festival.

The 53-year-old looked ravishing in a floor-length dove-grey gown adorned with red butterflies, created especially for the star by Italian designer Vionnet.

Ravishing: The 53-year-old wore a floor-length dove-grey gown adorned with red butterflies, created especially for the star by Italian designer Vionnet and later she slipped on some glittery sunglasses of the same shade

The singer put on a grand entrance in the gown, which she paired with sky-high ruby red stilettos and a matching swipe of Scarlett lipstick.

And despite the darkness, Madonna slipped on a pair of glitter red-rimmed sunglasses for an added dramatic effect.

Adorned with diamonds, the stunning star wore her hair in an old-Hollywood style curl.

Social: Ever the social butterfly, she chatted with the stars of her movie, including actor James D'Arcy, who looked dapper in a black tuxedo

Ever the social butterfly, she chatted and posed with Australian actress Abbie Cornish, who looked gorgeous in a graduated strapless purple Ateliar Versace and British star Andrea Riseborough, who was princess-like in a lemon Christian Dior Couture sensation complete with intricate beading on the tulle skirt.

Both the women star in Madonna's second directorial debut.

She also caught up with one of the male stars of the film James D'Arcy, who looked handsome in a black tuxedo.

Earlier the mother-of-three arrived in a speed boat to the cheers of hundreds of fans.

Cool shade: Despite the darkness, Madonna smiled as she showed off her pair of glitter red-rimmed sunglasses for an added dramatic effect

Flanked by security, she was lead to the red-carpet with one of her assistants, who helped her with the train of her dress.

After posing for hundred of photographers in the press line, the star settled into her seat inside the auditorium to watch the film.

The singer first appeared as youthful as ever as she arrived at a photocall to promote W.E. that morning.

Helping hand: The star was lead to the red-carpet with one of her assistants who helped her with the train of her dress

Her complexion was glowing and despite her advancing years, amazingly line-free.

The singer-turned-director is apparently a fan of innovative beauty treatments including human placenta facials.

But despite these extreme measures, she has said she is opposed to the idea of going under the knife.

'I am what I am. And I don’t like the idea of someone putting you to sleep then taking knives to you,' she has said.

Proud: Madonna proudly poses with the stars of her film; James D'Arcy, Andrea Riseborough, Abbie Cornish, Natalie Dormer, Oscar Isaac, left to right

The pop star's new film is a drama loosely based on divorcee Wallis Simpson, whose relationship with Britain's King Edward VIII led to his abdication in 1936.

Her first film, Filth And Wisdom was released in 2008 but didn't go down as well as the singer would have hoped, so her appearance in Venice is one of importance as she hopes to blow critics away with her second effort.

The title of the film is said to stand for the initials of the two main characters, Wallis and Edward.

Ms Simpson became the Duchess of Windsor when King Edward VIII renounced the throne and married her.

Frenzy: The photographer's flashbulb go crazy for the stars

But fitness fanatic Madonna, has cleverly given the film a modern twist, probably hoping that this will hold her in better stead for praise rather than negative press.

The film's Royal Family storyline runs parallel with a modern day equivalent following an unhappily married New Yorker named Wally Winthrop.

The pop queen herself recently clarified that the film is about a woman's journey and not about the Duchess' life. Instead, the Duchess would act as the woman's spiritual guide.

Making an entrance: Earlier the mother-of-three arrived in a speed boat to the cheers of hundreds of fans

The star says the success of the Oscar-winning The King's Speech also gives audiences a point of reference for her new film, W.E.

'I view the success off that film as laying the ground work for my film,' she said in her press conference today.

'There's a little bit of history, and a little bit of knowledge. We are not starting from a blank slate.'.

Good seat then? After posing for hundred of photographers in the press line, the star settled into her seat alongside her the stars of her film

Madonna said she received support for the project from both her two director ex-husbands, Sean Penn and Guy Ritchie.

And it is with those two divorces from the after-mentioned men that make the singer best suited to tell the story of the two-time American divorcee.

Even Madonna admitted that were similar parallels with her and Wallis.

Gorgeous in grape: Australian actress Abbie Cornish gorgeous in a graduated strapless purple Ateliar Versace

She said that they have common traits, such as both being Americans married to Brits, a shared love of fabulous clothes and a sense of adventure.

But most of all, the singer said she could relate to being limited by fame and notoriety.

She also told a news conference that she identifies with Mrs Simpson, because fame often reduces celebrities 'to a soundbite.'

'I think once you become famous, you have to pretty much relinquish the idea that people are going to see you for who you are, or look beyond the surface of things,' she said.

Long and short of it: Model Natasha Poly, left, looked pretty in pink Gucci and actress Marisa Tomei, right, was demure in a psychedelic printed shift

Turning back the clock: Madonna's looked as youthful as ever as she arrived at a photocall to promote W.E. this morning

Kerry Katona left crushed after Lucien reveals he has a girlfriend as housemates talk about sex

By Sarah Fitzmaurice

Upset? As Lucien revealed he was seeing a 27-year-old girl Kerry turned her head and became quiet before asking him if he like his girlfriend

They have been flirting for the past two weeks but Kerry Katona’s hopes of romance in the house have been quashed as Lucien has revealed he has a girlfriend.

The housemates were getting ready for bed when the Coronation Street actor made the shock revelation.

The group were talking about when they last had sex when Lucien revealed he was seeing a girl on the outside.

Bobby started the conversation revealing he was feeling particularly sexual frustrated and said: ‘Today was my breaking point I was like “I’m dying.”’

Amy Childs said was last intimate with someone in July while Kerry appealed to houseamtes and said: ‘Is there anyone to take me.’

Dropping a bombshell: Lucien revealed that he has a girlfriend leaving Kerry Katona crushed

Kerry asked Lucien if he slept with someone the day before he came into the house and it was at this point the actor dropped the bombshell that he was seeing a girl who had moved in with his friend.

He explained: ‘She’s a cool girl she is 27 she has her career on track I kinda just got involved.’

And Kerry couldn’t help but query the actor on his girl asking if her liked her.

Lucien replied: ‘We’ve got a wicked thing together we are very good friends.’

‘She’s a sweet girl.’

You're in love: As the actor spoke more about his girlfriend saying she was a wicked girl and they got on well, Kerry started shouting. You're in love Mumbles is in love

Not too long: Amy Childs revealed that she last had sex in July

Kerry appeared disappointed by the revelation and hid her head under the covers.

And Lucien tried to play down the relationship and said she was a bit older and had her career on track suggesting they weren’t looking for the same thing out of a relationship.

Perhaps to try and mask her disappointment Kerry squealed out: You love her. Mumbles is in love.’

And it was at this point that the actor said no one was a patch on the mother-of-four, who he has been flirting with for the past two weeks.

Chatting up: Earlier in the day Lucien had pretended to chat Kerry up in the bedroom using his best lines

Kerry replied: ‘Nothing compares to me baby.’

Earlier in the day the pair had been continuing their flirtation as the actor pretended to chat Kerry up while they were in the bedroom much to the dismay of model Bobby.

It was quite an emotional day for Kerry who not only showed just how tough she can be as a mother taking on the role of mother in the house dishing out the discipline to Jedward.

But Kerry also showed her soft side and broke down into sobs of tears after she was granted a phone call from her daughter Molly.

Stern: After Jedward trashed the house it was Kerry Katona who screamed at them and made them clean up their mess

After John and Edward had caused chaos in the house turning it upside down after going on a rampage it was Kerry who took on the task of telling them off.

She screamed: ‘Get in there and get that sh** cleaned up. NOW!’

Kerry bellowed: ‘You pair of jackarses, you are 19 not nine. It’s no good just standing there get it done my Molly acts older than you too.’

Furious female: The mother-of-four went ballistic at the Irish twins after they had trashed the house

Under control: After facing the wrath of Kerry the boys got their act together and cleared up their mess

As the former Atomic Kitten stormed out into the garden Paddy told her: ‘It’s f****** far from a joke.’

But Kerry stern demeanour worked and Jedward set to putting the house to rights.

The Irish brothers ended up spending hours scrubbing, wiping and straightening the mess they had made.

After she showed off her hard side Kerry also displayed her softer side and was left in floods of tears after speaking to her daughter.

Surveying their work: Kerry was seen inspecting the boys efforts and didn't look too impressed

The mother of four was given an eight minute conversation with her eldest daughter, who turned ten years old yesterday.

After blowing out eight candles on a cake in the dairy room Kerry was told she would be having a conversation with Molly and she couldn’t control the tears.

As Molly came on the phone Kerry cried and said: ‘Hello baby girl Happy Birthday I miss you so so much.

As her daughter revealed she had her ears pierced since Kerry has been in the house she exclaimed: ‘Ah right because you are ten now then, I hope you haven’t got a boyfriend.’

Molly said she was missing her mother but that she was having a good time and asked Kerry about her experience in the house.

Kerry explained how the whole house had sang

Kate the Venetian blonde zips in to premiere of new film Carnage

By Liz Thomas

Farewell: Kate waves goodbye to the crows in Venice last night

These days, it seems to be customary for any Hollywood actress worth her salt to get through at least three costume changes at a red carpet event.

So perhaps this daring taupe Victoria Beckham-designed dress – with a zip all the way up the back – was Kate Winslet's attempt to make life easier if she opted for a new outfit later on.

At the movies: Kate with actors Christoph Waltz and John C. Reilly

The actress was at the Venice Film Festival yesterday, attending the premiere of her film Carnage, by Roman Polanski, the notorious director who fled America after admitting unlawful sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl in 1978.

Premiere attraction: Kate shows off her curves on the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival

Showstopping: Kate worked the cameras and smiled at fans as she posed ahead of the screening

It is the 78-year-old's first film since he was freed from house arrest in Switzerland last year, although he is yet to face justice in the U.S.

Yet Miss Winslet yesterday defended her decision to star in the film, saying: 'When Roman Polanski invites you to join him in any project you really don't say no.

'I felt extremely fortunate to be included.'

Supporting spouses: Christoph Waltz was joined by wife Judith Waltz while John C. Reilly walked the red carpet with his wife Alison Dickey

Stars of the show: The cast of Carnage John C. Reilly, Kate Winslet and Christoph Waltz posed together ahead of the screening

Miss Winslet said: 'We were working with the great Roman Polanski. We are only human beings and we are still perfectly capable of being terrified, whoever we are.'

Carnage is based on Y Reza's award-winning play God of Carnage.

Kate was joined on the red carpet by co-stars Christoph Waltz, who was joined by wife Judith Waltz while John C. Reilly walked the red carpet with his wife Alison Dickey.

Just a few autographs: The actress was happy to sign her signature for the delighted crowds who had gathered outside the screening

Film guests: Bar Refaeli, Manuela Arcuri, Asia Argento and Eli Roth were also in attendance

Other guests included Sports Illustrated model Bar Refaeli, actresses Manuela Arcuri and Asia Argento and filmmaker Eli Roth.

Miss Winslet has spoken of her recent experience with Richard Branson and family on Necker Island.

The tycoon hailed the actress a hero after she rescued his mother eve from a fire in their house.

She said: 'I feel extremely fortunate to have been with the Branson family who coped with it incredibly well, I have never known such a group of extraordinarily stoic people and am very very grateful to be alive and to be here.'

So it worked then? Mel B rushed into hospital... but is baby number three finally on the way

By Sarah Fitzmaurice

This is it: The 36-year-old was scrunching up her face in pain while Stephen held onto her hand offering his support

Earlier this week she revealed she had tried everything from spicy foods to sex trying to induce labour.

But the former Spice Girl didn’t have to wait too long and early this morning Mel B was rushed into hospital.

The 36-year-old was seen being helped by her husband Stephen Belafonte and a bodyguard as she made her way to a hospital in L.A. with the baby very much on the way.

It's coming: Mel B was rushed into an L.A. hospital in the early hours of this morning after going into labour with her third child

The mother of one appeared to be in pain from contractions and was seen scrunching up her face as she was helped to the hospital.

The singer, real name Melanie Brown, was dressed causally in a pair of light blue linen trousers and a blue hooded jumper with a pirate print on it.

At 4am Mel had complained to Twitter that she couldn't sleep and that her husband was kindly rustling her up a snack.

And breathe: Mel struggled to cross the road despite having the support of the two men and tried to concentrate on her breathing

Despite the early hour Stephen made her a healthy meal and she posted: '@Stephenthinks1 is cooking me chicken and greens,i have the best hubby EVER!!'

And it seems that the food did just the trick as within a few hours Mel was in the Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Beverly Hills with the baby on the way.

Yesterday Mel had revealed that she was ready to meet her newest arrival and was doing everything that she could to induce labour.

Feeling better? Mel's contractions appeared to be coming and going as she was rushed into Cedars-Sinai hospital in Beverly Hills

Nearly there: When Mel was just a few feet away from the hospital door it looked like she might not make it and Stephen looked concerned

The star has been trying various activities to induce labour, including exercise, eating various foods and another well known tactic: sex.

'Ideally I want it to come naturally,' continued Mel B.

'But I've tried everything, I've tried the hot food, the running, the sex, the violence, I've tried it all. It just seems to be stuck and hibernating in there getting bigger and bigger, so it's coming out this week for sure.'

Growing brood: Melanie is already mother to Phoenix Chi, 12, from her marriage to Jimmy Gulzar and Angel, four, from her relationship with Eddie Murphy

Melanie is already mother to Phoenix Chi, 12, from her marriage to Jimmy Gulzar and Angel, four, from her relationship with Eddie Murphy.

The singer and reality star announced that she was pregnant with her third child, her first with husband Stephen on Twitter in March.

A spokesperson for Mel was unavailable for comment earlier today.

'I've never had surgery... I look good because I'm in love': Shane Warne gives the real reason for his youthful look

By Holly Thomas

No surgery: Shane Warne, pictured at an England vs Sri Lanka test match in June, says he still has 'a few wrinkles'

Shane Warne has finally spoken out about claims that he has undergone plastic surgery to maintain his astonishingly youthful looks.

In a candid new radio interview, he has denied going under the surgeon's knife, and instead credits his new lease of life to being in love and healthier habits.

The star bowler also refused to confirm or deny rumours of an engagement to Liz Hurley.

Talking openly on 3AW's breakfast show today, Shane stressed that he had never even contacted a plastic surgeon.

'I've got some wrinkles,' Shane admitted, but emphasised: 'I have never even had a consultation with a plastic surgeon.'

Shane even indicated that the media have manipulated images of his face to promote the idea that he's had work done

'I don't think it's right or fair to the public to portray me as a person with no wrinkles,' he said.

'I've got some legal advice on that at the moment. Some pictures have been doctored. That's illegal in this country.'

No longer a beer and pie guy: Chatting on 3AW radio this morning Shane insisted he just cut out the junk to keep pace with younger players

'I haven't changed one bit,' the 42 year old insisted.

Warne said that he has adopted a more moderate lifestyle as a way of keeping up with younger players. His weight loss started when he began a new TV show in Australia last October.

'I'm no longer the 30-year-old bloke who used to sit in the changing room and have beer and pies. I still do that but I'm 42 and maturing now. I still like my beans in the morning. Or my spaghetti on toast,' Shane said.

'I'm around 78 kilos at the moment. I'm running. I'm fit, I'm strong. I was around 92kg when I was playing.

False impression: Shane believes that some media outlets have doctored images of his face

He added: 'I actually wanted to get fit. I got into it and I really started to enjoy it so I have kept going.'

Shane addressed the widely held belief that his relationship with model Elizabeth Hurley was the reason behind his health kick: 'I think Liz is annoyed about reports she's the person who's changed me.'

'Elizabeth Hurley hasn't got her high heels in the middle of my back saying, "You must do 100 push ups" and, "You can't do that". It's absolute rubbish.

'Suddenly people see you with Elizabeth Hurley and they see you mixing with some of her friends and they think, "Where's this Aussie guy who had a pie and beer in his hand gone?"'

Big change: The bowler, pictured left leaving Liz Hurley's house a fortnight ago and right in February 2010, started to lose weight last October

'I'm the fittest I have ever been, I'm the happiest I have ever been. I'm healthy, what's the crime here?'

Nevertheless he admitted to some remaining vices. 'I still eat pizzas, I still have a pie and a beer, but it's all in moderation,' Shane confessed.

When the conversation turned to more romantic matters, Shane was less forthcoming, and refused to say whether he had proposed.

'If I had some sort of news about that I'd be happy to share it with you,' he said.

When interviewer Neil Mitchell persisted, a smiling Warne replied: 'As I said Neil, if there is any news, I will let you know.'

Keeping quiet: Though he was firm in denying that partner Elizabeth Hurley had influenced his weight loss, Shane refused to confirm engagement rumours

Asked if he was in love, he replied: "Yes I am.

'Being in love with someone is a wonderful feeling and I am at the moment. 'I think that gives off a radiant glow too, you know.'

He continued, 'I was lucky to meet Elizabeth, we've met, we're having a great time and I am in love with her. We're going really well, it's easy with each other.'

'It's a bit interesting. It's different at times, in her world. But she likes my world. Together, we make a pretty good partnership.'

'It's nice that the people out there think that we make a good couple and they're happy for us. She's a lovely lady. The kids are accepting of her.'

Perfect match: Shane says that that being in love with Elizabeth is 'wonderful'
